In 1995 Lara Davis followed her heart for music education into the realm of Early Childhood. After teaching in public schools and church programs for five years, she became inspired to "trickle down" these ideas to even younger children, but was disappointed to find few programs teaching music "for music's sake" to preschool-age children. So from her living room computer and piano, she developed the curriculum for Kidstunes and began offering it to Burlington childcare centers, church preschools and private schools for children ages two and up.
Since its inception, Kidstunes has seen steady growth and improvements including expanded curriculum materials, a home office in Burlington for administrative staff, an extensive resource library for instructors, and studio space; the addition of services such as birthday parties, special event programs and in-service training for classroom teachers accredited by NC Department of Child Development; and recognition by the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association as a leader in this field. We are honored that Kidstunes has reached hundreds of schools and thousands of children and continues to thrive and grow.
One question parents often ask when their child heads off to Elementary School is "When will my child be ready for private music instruction"? The answer to that question varies, but what is critical is that children continue to nurture and develop their natural aptitude for music at this age. Therefore, Lara Davis and Kim Moore partnered to form Kidstunes Music Academy, Through Musikgarten's Music Makers at the Keyboard method, Kim and Lara began teaching group piano classes to children ages 6-9 to prepare them for future musical endeavors. Continuing with the philosophy that children thrive in the group environment, learning piano skills is no different. To learn more about this program, please visit www.KidstunesAcademy.com.
