Books that Sing – Stories
that Dance!
Incorporating Music,
Movement, and Imagination with Books and Literature
in your Preschool classroom!
Presented by Lara
Davis, Kidstunes
Description:
Primarily for the
“regular classroom” early childhood teacher, this
session will be very active as we enhance our
dramatic skills through interactive participation!
Attendees will explore techniques for integrating
music & movement with books and storytelling to
promote creativity, cross-curricular connections,
and literacy. We will outline five general book
formats that lend themselves easily to music and
movement and then fully engage in one example from
at least four of these categories. Activities will
range from expanding rhythmic text into a simple
song and non-locomotor finger play to full
dramatization using instruments, props, and
classical listening selections! Classroom teachers
will gain confidence in participatory storytelling
from hands-on experience with specific texts and
musical excerpts presented throughout this active
session! Handouts will be provided with all
activities presented as well as suggestions for
other titles and easy-to-find music to expand their
practical library.
