Mr. Ben joins Kidstunes with a background as a BSAC certified early development Music and Phonics teacher at a 5-star accredited preschool in Raleigh and previously a Kindermusik instructor. He is a father of 3 and holds a BA in Arts Application Music (i.e. Ethnomusicology) from North Carolina State University. He double minored in Music Theory & Composition and Vocal Performance. He is also the vocalist, bassist and musical director of The Dapper Conspiracy - a local newgrass/grass rock band.
Taught from a young age how to sing harmonies during Sunday morning hymns Mr. Ben sang in church choirs and community musical theatre growing up. In high school he was trumpet line captain for a 4A competitive marching band and held 1st chair in their performing jazz band. His senior year he switched over to choir and started his first garage band. In college he started playing bass guitar in another band while performing with the NC State Chorale under direction of Dr. Alfred Sturgis; rejoining Dr. Sturgis upon graduation in the North Carolina Master Chorale for the next 4 years.
Mr. Ben believes that music should be treated like a second language and as such, taught during the earliest stages of development. He feels by learning to communicate musical ideas through a variety of instruments and academic disciplines we can stimulate learning, improve social interactions and put talents to good use. Side effects also include: confidence, focus, having fun, making friends and lots and lots of joyful noise.
Mr. Ben teaches Voice, Bass Guitar, Trumpet, Mandolin, Early Development group classes and adolescent/adult Pop, Rock & Blues ensembles.
